Cwm Ciprwth - A North Wales Copper Mine

Photo gallery page 2 - the flat rods and pump

This crank is connected to the flat rods.

One of the uprights connecting two flat rods.

The upright is hinged at the bottom by this bearing.  When pumping the whole structure would have rocked backwards and forwards transferring energy from the water wheel to the pump.

Because the flat rods are not under tension they have assumed this bowed shape.

The pump with the balance box at this end.  The balance box would have been filled with rubble to keep the system tensioned.

The pumping end with the stream, into which the pumped water was discharged, in the background.
