The Wrexham to Bidston railway
'The Borderlands line'
by Dave Sallery

230006, Hawarden, 23-07-2020, photo by John Mathers.  This is the first of the five 'new' three car trains for Wrexham - Bidston line services.  It is currently undergoing tests and driver/guard training. The units were originally built for London Underground as class D78 and used on the Circle line. They have been extensively refurbished and feature a novel diesel/battery hybrid propulsion system. Great things are expected of these units with the prospect of half hourly services and even extension of some services to Liverpool James Street. They will hopefully bring a big boost to the line.

66765, Cefn-y-Bedd, 24-05-2020. Cement trains are now running out of Penyffordd works after a gap of many years. Currently Avonmouth is the only destination served but it is hoped other terminals will follow.
